RAYASTRE is an Indonesian artist living in the Netherlands. His practice is a mystical and spiritual process in which he relinquishes control and becomes a portal through which cosmic energy is filtered and materialized into our world.

After a profound personal enlightenment experience, his work changed dramatically.

The surreal is no longer obscured by darkness; it is now illuminated, enveloped in a beautiful light, amplifying the work’s inner and outer beauty and charged with cosmic energy.
They shine in a strange light, similar to how the artist himself experienced a mystical, transformative enlightenment. It is from this personal enlightenment that the artist creates his surrealist works.

“I become the witness of the birth of my own work, in a timeless and formless universe… I am the spectator, a filter. A tiny molecule in an endless stream of consciousness…”

The artist has a preoccupation with death and rebirth… Just as he has experienced his own death and his life has changed significantly afterward.
Elements of death, illumination and rebirth can be seen in the artist’s use of taxidermy, radiographs and light.

Rayastre sees himself as the representative of his work, without really knowing the maker. The maker, being something bigger than himself.
